What is a Subdomain Name and How Do I manage One?
**This article assume that you are using our nameservers. If not, you may need to do extra steps at your registrar in order to use a subdomain.
It is not always necessary to register a new domain name when the one you already own will work perfectly fine. Rather than registering a new domain name, you can always create a subdomain using a domain you already own.
A subdomain is a second website, with its own unique content, but there is no new domain name. Instead, you use an existing domain name and change the www to another name. The subdomain name looks like blog.domain.com, forum.domain.com, other.domain.com (assuming you already host domain.com).
To create a subdomain, please do the following:
- Login to your client area or cPanel and click Subdomains.
- In the drop-down, choose the domain.
- In the box before the domain, type the subdomain name you want.
- Click inside the "Document Root" box and it will auto-fill (feel free to adjust it to your needs).
- Click the Create button.
To delete a subdomain, please do the following:
- Login to your client area or cPanel and click Subdomains.
- At the bottom, under Actions, click Remove.
