How to add and edit product ratings and reviews in Magento

In Magento each product can be rated and reviewed. Customers (both guests and registered ones) can submit reviews of a product and they can also rate it based on the rating criteria that you have added from the admin panel. Product reviews and ratings can also be added by administrators directly from the admin panel. On the details/view page of each product there are links which customers can use to read the existing reviews and to submit new ones. The submission form contains both the necessary settings for writing the review and the rating options. After a review is submitted it has to be approved by an administrator before it is shown on the frontend.

To approve reviews, log in to the admin panel of your Magento and go to Catalog>Ratings and Reviews>Customer Reviews>Pending Reviews. This will display a table with all pending reviews. To approve reviews mark the checkbox in front of each review, select Update Status from the Actions drop-down menu (it's in the top right corner of the table), then select Approved from the Status drop-down menu next to it and click on the Submit button. Of course, if you want to, you can select Not Approved, or you can directly delete the review(s). To edit any of the reviews and to add new ones go to Catalog>Ratings and Reviews>Customer Reviews>All Reviews. This will display a table with both approved and pending reviews. On this page you can also change the status of reviews or delete them by using the Actions drop-down menu in the top right corner of the table. To edit the settings of a review click on its row in the table; if you want to add a new one, click on the Add New Review button that's above the upper right corner of the table.

In both cases the page with the review settings will be displayed. On that page you can set the nickname of the reviewer, change/type the summary of the review and the actual review. If you're editing and existing review, you can also change the ratings. After you're done click on the Save Review button.

Magento comes preconfigured with three ratings: PriceQualityValue. When customers submit reviews they also have to rate the product. You can add new rating criteria and you can also edit the settings of the existing ratings. To do this, in the admin panel go to Catalog>Ratings and Reviews>Manage Ratings. On the page that opens you'll see a table with the three preconfigured ratings. To edit any of them click on its row in the table. To add a new one click on the Add New Rating button that's above the top right corner of the table. From the rating settings you can configure the default name of the rating as you want it to appear on the frontend. You can also set a different name for each store view, if your store has more than one view. You can set in which store view(s) the rating should be visible. You can also set the position in which it will appear in relation to other ratings. If you don't want people to be able to rate products, you can hide all rating criteria. After you're done with the settings click on the Save Rating button.
